Do I Need Protein Powder

My name is Dale Nelson and I work with busy business guys to improve their health, fitness and nutrition, to improve their work performance.

So today’s question is, do I really need protein powder? And the answer is yes! There is only one … no. Protein powder is a supplement, of course. Do you need to live off a supplement to make your diet work? No. A lot of what protein supplements, the aim of the protein supplement is to make sure that you’re hitting your base level protein requirements.

So if you’re not enjoying the taste or if you’re not enjoying the feeling in the stomach, I’m not entirely sure why they don’t want to eat it. Maybe it’s just the concept of having a supplement, meaning that their nutrition isn’t where it should be. It could be a bit of that. Do you need protein powder? No. Does it make life easier? Yes. Especially if you don’t understand where protein is coming from in terms of meal to meal. Protein powder just makes it so much simpler to get that protein in for the day so that you’re hitting what your body needs to function.

In terms of, do you actually need it? No. But what does it do? Protein powders tend to be loaded up with things that will help with muscle development. It’ll help with recovery. It helps you get your base level protein requirements. So if you’re only eating, let’s say two to three meals a day … and a lot of people are very focused on skipping protein for breakfast. Tend to focus on things like toast or cereals or coffee, rather than getting in the smoothie or getting in the eggs and things like that, and there just seems to be a lot of convenient type meals in the morning, with regard to breakfast choice.

This is where protein can really help, in terms of getting those base protein numbers to make sure your body is getting what it needs to recover, to grow, to become more lean, and to improve your strength. So making sure that your body is getting it’s base requirements is where protein supplements stand out. Now if you’re having a very wholesome and a very well thought protein wise in a meal plan, then chances are you probably do not need it necessarily, and you can get away without.

It’s just one way of making meals a lot easier and a lot more comfortable to … the whole meal process a lot more comfortable to go through. That’s literally what it’s intention is.
